From 2018 and Still Fresh: A Creative Home of Greenery, Art, and Invention

27 Sep 2025

Back in 2018 I photographed Anna Lidström’s home in Borås for a magazine. Looking at the images again now, they still feel as fresh and inspiring as they did then. Interiors can age quickly — the fast pace of trends often makes photos look dated within just a few years. But homes that aren’t built on trends don’t have that problem. Anna’s home is a perfect example.

Anna Lidström is a researcher, lecturer, designer, and artist at Another Studio. She received her Ph.D. from The Swedish School of Textiles, University of Borås, in 2023. Her doctoral thesis, “Redesign Foundations,” explores challenges in conventional design methods and design thinking for redesign processes, contributing to the methodological foundations of redesign. Her work focuses on sustainable fashion — especially redesign and reuse — and that approach runs straight through her home too.
Almost nothing is bought new. Objects are repurposed and made playful: DIY lighting that looks high-end but is just cords strung together, an emergency fire blanket treated like wall art, vintage ashtrays and trashcans used as plant bases. Plants are placed everywhere, spilling from shelves and baskets into the room.
The satin bow tied to a plant is the perfect symbol for Anna’s approach to decorating — playful, thrifty, inventive, and just plain fun, without ever feeling forced.

Going through my archives, this shoot stood out. Still inspiring after seven years — and sure to be in twenty more.
