WHAT I AM WATCHING - YOUTUBE

After months of darkness, lack of inspiration and doomscrolling: spring is finally here and I want to do everything all at once.
Be outside, photograph, sort thru archives and the wardrobe, watch my favorite movies and shows and also play video games.
I see possibilities instead of obstacles. However there are only 24 hours in a day so I have to prioritize. When it comes to Youtube - these are the videos I want to spend time with.
Title: Coupla Boys (All episodes on YT)
Creator: Joe Cappa
During Christmas break our family got into the animated show: " Haha You Clowns" on Adult Swim (Available on HBO in Sweden).
Since then I've been enjoying Joe Cappa's art on his YT channel. It reminds me of the short films from MTV in the 1990's, Napoleon Dynamite and Cartoon Network stuff like Space Ghost but less cynical, his work is awkward and wonderful and mesmerizing. In 2022 Adult Swim aired Cappa's Gabagoblins, a version of the Teletubbies, after it went viral on TikTok.
In an interview with MEOWWOLF he talks about doubt and creating stuff for others:
"If you want to make your own stuff — like, not for anyone else — I think it's hard to find that motivation when there's the incredible risk of going broke. I sort of lived with that anxiety my entire adulthood. At some point, I really saw no future in what I was doing for other people. I had no endgame. And at the same time, I had no endgame for making my own crap. So at the end of the day the only option you have is just to follow the bliss. Ignore the doubt. You make the sacrifices, and you take the risk to follow your own bliss. It's such a yogi thing to say and I don't really feel qualified to give career advice like that, but it's currently working for me and it's something I wish I did sooner!"
There are many more I want to talk about like "Holiday Party" and when the boys help a couple of tourist take a photo.
But you should just dive in on your own if you are into that sort of stuff - follow Joe Cappa here.
Title: Eyes Wide Shut: Recreating New York
Creator: Criterion
Did you know Eyes Wide Shut was filmed in England? I did not.
Photographer Lisa Leone recreated the streets of Manhattan with Stanley Kubrick by shipping trash, street signs and yellow cabs over the Atlantic Ocean.
She talks about it in this interview.
Title: Peter Cushing 1973 BBC South Archive
Creator: VintageTreats
Title: Peter Cushing: Radio Cabin interview 1994
Creator: Marcusleadley123
When I'm not listening to music I listen to interviews on Youtube. Especially radio interviews from the 1970's. Lately I've been interested in Hammer Film Production. Since 1934 they produced gothic horrror films from classic books like Frankenstein, Sherlock Holmes and Dracula.
Peter Cushing played over 100 roles on film and in theaters. Many of them were Hammer productions like Van Helsing, Dr Frankenstein and Sherlock Holmes. (To my generation he is most known as Grand Moff Tarkin in Star Wars)
There are several restored radio interviews with him uploaded. These two are a good start.
Title: Meet Jan: A 91-Yeas Old Zelda Superfan
Creator: Killer Carp
Jan started gaming with her 5 year old grandson in the 1990's when the Nintendo 64 came out. She was drawn in by Mario but ultimately got hooked by Zelda. In this video Killer Carp helps her set up some of the retro consoles and also shows her how much her collection is worth today. But the best part of this video is Jan talking about Link, at 3:48 in the video above.
